Growing up in Springfield, Ohio Imamura Sensei always had  a love for world languages and other cultures from an early age. Constantly intrigued by speakers of other languages, she and her family hosted a student from France during her senior year in high school. Her passion grew from there.

Once at The Ohio State University she added Japanese to her world language studies, majoring in International Relations and Japanese with a minor in French. During her senior year, Imamura Sensei did a study abroad spending half the year in Tokyo and the other half in Chiba prefecture. While there, she spent her time working at a Buddhist kindergarten and for a multilingual magazine publisher. After graduating from The Ohio State University, Imamura Sensei returned to Japan once again. This time she worked as an ALT for Ibaraki prefecture Board of Education teaching TESOL at the Junior High School Level. Imamura Sensei returned to The Ohio State University yet once more to obtain her M.Ed. in Foreign Language education.

As the Japanese program designer for the Fort Hayes Arts and Academic High School Japanese program, Imamura Sensei's goal is to bring authentic Japanese experiences to her students by getting them involved in the local Japanese community. In addition, Imamura Sensei has developed a sister school relationship with Asahikawa Jitsugyou High School in Hokkaido, Japan. The exchange takes place each year with Fort Hayes students traveling to Hokkaido on the even years and hosting Hokkaido students on the odd years. In 2006, Imamura Sensei formed a liaison with Arts Impact Middle School expanding her program to levels 1 through 5 by offering Japanese I to 8th graders.

Imamura Sensei is excited to share her experiences focusing on a research-based  approach to language learning that will  prepare her students to use their language proficiency and intercultural competence to communicate more effectively in a global society.
